Picking up the design
As Visual Designer, I was tasked with reworking assets for the site’s re-launch. I was met with the unique problem of designing new assets that could match the current branding of the product, while also creating my own springboard to drive the designs of these new critical pages.
Navigation Icons
To get a jump start on understanding the branding, we worked on the Navigation Icons first. Much like the logo, they’re an anchor on every page.
NOTES:
I wanted to push the pseudo-3D effect to match some of the assets included in the client’s resources
Much of the site was themed in primary colors, and I wanted to ensure each icon had a more dominant color for easier differentiation.
These design decisions greatly helped drive the designs for the next set of assets. We had more opportunities to feature 3D effects, and the color green began to feel more at-home in our color scheme.
Client-Provided Resources
The Shop Page
Credit Tiles
The previous assets were in need of a face-lift, so I modeled and rendered the coins in Cinema 4D. Having polished art also allowed us to pair it with flat text that could be iterated on LiveOps (something that wasn’t possible with the previous text effects.)
Additional Assets

Challenge Tiles
A designer on the client’s team had already redesigned the Tournament tiles. I followed up with a redesign of the challenge tiles that maintains the same 3D style the trophies had.
These tiles were made with the consideration that any game thumbnail can be swapped in and it wouldn’t break the design.
Leaderboard Widget
I worked closely with our client’s UX/UI director to rework the leaderboard widget. We opted to remove the “Most Played” section. It gave us the opportunity to introduce color and further highlight the winning spots (as well as the current player’s ranking.)
